Positioning the desiccant filter or dehydrator anywhere convenient on the liquid line ensures that as the liquid refrigerant travels toward the expansion device, it passes through the filter. This location allows the filter to capture moisture before it can enter sensitive components of the system, such as the expansion valve or evaporator coil, which could be damaged or impaired by moisture and debris.

In contrast, placing the filter at the compressor inlet or before the evaporator coil may not effectively protect the entire system. The compressor deals primarily with gas and would not benefit from a liquid line filter placement.
